TSAS, in partnership with NYFA, is rallying 100 local artists to each create 100 specially commissioned portraits in exchange for $10 donations. The event, called ‘Pledge a Sketch: An Artists for Art Square Sketchathon’, aims to generate 10,000 original works of art and raise $100,000 in a single day in support of Art Square 2013 and NYFA’s Emergency Relief Fund established for artists impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
AlleyNYC, a Midtown co-working space, is serving as the energetic hub for the marathon art event. Participating artist will begin sketching at 9am and attempt to complete their 100 portraits before 11pm in the evening.
Throughout the day, artists will have access to numerous resources to help further their own careers. Representatives from NYFA and other arts organizations will present on opportunities for artists. Companies such as IndieWalls will discuss the changing art market and scout artists for their own programs. A diverse group of professional curators, including Hrag Vartanian, renowned Editor in Chief of blogazine Hyperallergic, will offer one-on-one advisory appointments to artists.
The public is invited to commission portraits in-person at the live event or online through the TSAS website at http://artsquare.co/pledge/order. Online participants will receive digital copies of their portraits and have the option to receive original copies via postal mail.
